Top 10 HR Conversations You Get Paid to Have
Speaker: Valarie A. Nash
Deputy Director, HR & Support Services
Stark County Job & Family Services
Valarie has been in the human resources field nineteen years. She began her professional career in healthcare, returning to that industry after a brief time in manufacturing. Currently, Valarie works in the public employment sector for the Stark County Job & Family Services (SCJFS) as the Deputy Director, Human Resources & Support Services. Valarie is a graduate from Mount Union and is working on the completion of her MBA from Ashland University.
Valarie enjoys working in the labor/employee relations arena and is most proud of her involvement in a national pilot program while employed at Akron General Medical Center (AGMC) in 2004. Valarie was one of the founding members of a groundbreaking program, along AGMC, the United Steelworks, the Ohio Nurses Association and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services. The program continues to grow and is focused on assisting employees in the workplace to ensure compatibility and harmony in working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and patients.
This collaborative approach is how Valarie approaches her current position with SCJFS. Since her employment in 2008 Valarie has worked to improve the relationship between management and the union, while promoting initiatives to benefit employees and enhance customer service.
In addition to working for SCJFS, Valarie volunteers her time for various organizations in the Stark County region. Valarie is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, Junior Achievement/Canton City Schools, Women’s Leadership Giving for the United Way of Greater Stark County, Job & Family Services HR Association, and is an advocacy member for ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease through the ALS Association of Northeast Ohio & Stark County Citizens for Children Services. In addition, Valarie sits on the following boards: President-elect for the Ohio Outdoor Historical Drama Association (New Philadelphia), Secretary for Stark County HR Association, Canton Ballet, The Golden Key Center for Exceptional Children, Community Advisor for Canton City Schools Administrative Office Technology, and Vice- Chair for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Fan Appreciation Parties.
