Social Media and Its Impact on the Workforce
SPEAKER:
GUS CALLAS
Social Media can be a fun and rewarding way to share your life and opinions with family, friends and coworkers around the world. However, use of social media also presents certain risks and carries with it certain responsibilities.
In the rapidly expanding world of electronic communication, social media can mean many things. Social media includes, all means of communicating or posting information or content of any sort on the Internet, including to your own or someone else's web log or blog, journal or diary, personal web site, social networking or affinity web site, web bulletin board or a chat room, whether or not associated or affiliated with your employer, as well as any other form of electronic communication. Ultimately, you are solely responsible for what you post online. Before creating online content, consider some of the risks and rewards that are involved. Keep in mind that any of your conduct that adversely affects your job performance, the performance of fellow associates or otherwise adversely affect members, customers, suppliers, people who work on behalf of your employer or your employer's business interests may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Our speaker, Gust Callas currently serves as Coordinator for the Labor and Employment Practice Area of his Firm. He is also a member of the Firm's Litigation and Worker's Compensation Service Groups. Gust has extensive experience in litigation and particular specialty in the defense and counseling of clients in employment-related matters. He has successfully argued cases before the Ohio Supreme Court, as well as the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
A member of the Stark County and Ohio State Bar Associations, he has been called upon as lecturer for continuing legal education programs and conducted training programs for businesses and trade organizations nationwide. He also serves as a mediator for the US District Court, Northern District of Ohio. A Canton native, Gust is active in many community and civic organizations and has served as the Treasurer of the Stark County Bar Association for over 20 years.
