Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Movie Series
“13th”
Join Akron Area SHRM as we launch a new Roundtable Series addressing the impact of systemic racism and inequality in our society through video and movie reviews.
"Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." –Thirteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution
Netflix's 13th allows viewers everywhere to learn about the lasting effects of the 13th Amendment and how it led to America's mass incarceration problem. Director Ava DuVernay combines archival footage with a mixture of interviews from powerful political figures to create a product that will stand the test of time—a forever piece of learning material.
As we in HR commit to our focus on racial justice, equality, and diversity in our communities, we ask participants to watch the documentary in advance and come to the meeting ready to discuss their impressions of this film. Each should be prepared to learn about and create some tangible solutions to incorporate within their own circles of influence.
This is the first of 5 films that we will review throughout 2021. Join us in this most important Roundtable Discussion series! Spaces are limited…register today!
